WindGIS is an Internet-based geographic information system (GIS) technology that enables users to browse, query, and display wind energy-related spatial data using a standard web browser. WindGIS includes a number of relevant data sets such as NREL’s wind power (50-m) classification map, wind power plant locations, wind power capacity by state, power transmission lines, elevation, land cover, geopolitical layers, as well as access to other relevant data layers (e.g., see the sample map below). Users can interrogate map features and extract and download selected map features.
